Before I left, I decided to do a bit of research about London and pick the most interesting places to go in the city. A weekend getaway is not much time, so I knew I had to make the most out of it. As much as I wanted to see everything there is to see about this city, I didn’t want to wear myself out. I wanted to enjoy my time here and fortunately I found a few travel tips that would really help.
With my trusted DSLR and smartphone with a travel app that would act sort of like my travel guide, I ventured onto the streets of London. I decided to take a short ride in one of the famous black taxis, something that is truly identified with this city. We passed by something that looked vaguely familiar, a webuyanycar branch. I checked them out back home when I was trying to sell my old car and seeing them here was a pleasant surprise.
If you go to London, take a photo of yourself at Trafalgar Square so you have proof that you were really there, a friend told me. Well, to me that sounded like Trafalgar Square was sort of like the Eiffel Tower of Paris (next on my list), so off I went. On the way we passed an area called Piccadilly Circus (so the taxi driver said) – it didn’t look too much like a circus, more of a roundabout with a bunch of people sitting down.
Nelson’s Column was a little bit taller than what I had expected. I knew from my research that it was 185 feet high and that the statue on top of the tower was 17 feet tall, but actually seeing it was amazing. It got me thinking, Admiral Horatio Nelson, the Admiral who died in the battle that took place here in 1805, would really be proud of his victory there if he could just see this monument today.
After wondering around for a couple of hours, taking photos of the column and the water fountains, I decided to head down to London Bridge. Walking across London Bridge got me humming that nursery rhyme. The bridge did collapse several times in its history and walking over it and thinking of that rhyme gave me sort of weird feeling.
I loved looking over the calm waters of the Thames but London still had much more to offer me. I still needed to see the Crown Jewels at the London Tower and of course, Buckingham Palace. Two days just wasn’t enough time to absorb the sites of London!
